How do we protect visitor information?

Can I remove/delete my user account?
Yes, each user that has created an account with Circara has the option to permanently terminate the account at any time using the link, Delete Account, under the Settings menu, when logged in. This will remove all the data you have entered into your account. Once the link has been clicked and the account is removed there is no possible way to retrieve the data, it is permanently deleted.

Do we use an SSL certificate?
Yes. We only provide articles and information, we never ask for personal or private information like credit card numbers or address information. The reason we do use an SSL certificate is that we do want to add an additional layer of security for our visitors.

Do we use cookies?
Yes. When you submit data through a form such as those found on contact pages or comment forms cookies may be set to remember your user details for future correspondence. This is part of the "session" cookie which is set when you entered the site. A "session" cookie is also called a transient cookie, a cookie that is erased when you close the Web browser. The session cookie is stored in temporary memory and is not retained after the browser is closed. Session cookies do not collect information from your computer. They typically will store information in the form of a session identification that does NOT personally identify you.

California Online Privacy Protection Act
CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law's reach stretches well beyond California to require a person or company in the United States (and conceivably the world) that operates websites collecting personally identifiable information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals with whom it is being shared, and to comply with this policy.

How does our site handle do not track signals?
We honor do not track signals and do not track plant cookies, or use advertising when a Do Not Track (DNT) browser mechanism is in place. Our website only set PHP session and CSRF cookies, never any tracking cookies.

Does our site allow third-party behavioral tracking?
It's also important to note that we do not allow third-party behavioral tracking unless set by advertisers such as Google.

COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)
When it comes to the collection of personal information from children under 13 years old, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. The Federal Trade Commission, the nation's consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what operators of websites and online services must do to protect children's privacy and safety online.

Circara does not specifically market to children under the age of 18 years old. Circara is an adult website in the sense that our content is created for people between the legal age of 18 - 65 years.

Fair Information Practices
The Fair Information Practices Principles form the backbone of privacy law in the United States and the concepts they include have played a significant role in the development of data protection laws around the globe. Understanding the Fair Information Practice Principles and how they should be implemented is critical to comply with the various privacy laws that protect personal information.
